Digital Age Script

Music. Everybody listens to music. Wether it be rock to rap, or pop to EDM. The ways we all access the music we love has changed drastically ever since the internet came around.
Now, we have platforms such as Spotify and SoundCloud which have made it even easier to listen to music and explore different artists and genres. everyone can now open their phone or computer, and in a matter of seconds, play any music they want. But this wasn't always the case. Before we had streaming platforms and the internet, ways of accessing music people love or new was music was very different.
Back before the internet was around, people had to go to their nearest music shop and buy either a CD, Vinyl's and cassette tapes. This was very limiting for some people as their only way of experiencing different music was buy either buying a new CD or Vinyls of a different genre or artist. Also, they could have went and saw a live performance of a artist or band they like or even one they haven't heard before.
Spotify was launched in October of 2008 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. They are based and Sweden and they are one of the biggest music streaming platforms around today.
SoundCloud was launched in August 2007 in Berlin,Germany. The CEO to date is Kerry Trainor from 11 August 2017 to 1 January 2021. The next CEO in line is Micheal Weissman from 1 January 2021. As of now they have 76 million registered users on the platform and 175 million unique monthly listeners.
Deezer was launched in August 2007 in Paris,France and as of 2016 has a parent company Access Industries. The funders were Daniel Marhely and Jonathan Benassaya. It is available in over 180 countries.
These are just some of there music streaming platforms available now and they are the foundation of how we stream and listen to music today.

Personally I think that music streaming platforms ahem changed the music industry both for better or worse. They have made it much easier to access and explore music and providing songs and different genres to a wider audience, they also show those using the service new released music from the artists they love and even new artists they may grow to like. On top of this users of the service are able to make playlists to have all of their music in one place at all time, and with a subscription to most streaming platforms they are able to download their playlists and play them offline.
But a downsides is music streaming platforms is that the platform profits more than the artist for the number of streams their songs may have. Also a lot of the streaming platforms today allow anyone to use the service to stream music, but there are a lot of features restricted unless they pay for a subscription. Plus competition from other established musicians means new artists will have a harder time getting noticed among the platform in which they are releasing their music to, which means people using the streaming service have a lower chance of coming across or being suggested new upcoming and talented artists.
But overall I think they are a good way for anyone to release and listen to music for anyone using the platform and are probably the best way for music to be accessed in the digital age.
